The Creatures.
This series of ceramic sculptures is inspired by a book of Mayan legends that my aunt gave me when I was very young. The book explained the origins of trees, the seasons, and natural phenomena through myth and story. I vividly remember being captivated by the illustrations—the details of the faces and characters left a lasting impression on me that continues to influence my work today.
These pieces are a continuation of that fascination: each creature embodies its own personality, spirit, and story. By translating the myths into three-dimensional forms, I explore my roots in Yucatán and the deeper layers of human and natural connection. The faces and features carry both memory and imagination, inviting viewers to look beyond the surface and engage with the characters’ inner worlds.
